Micro-Sand Ballasted Sedimentation Tank

The micro-sand ballasted sedimentation tank (sand-ballasted high-rate clarifier) adds micro-sand as a floc carrier during flocculation on the basis of high-efficiency flocculation-sedimentation, increasing floc density and settling velocity to greatly improve sedimentation efficiency. With large treatment capacity, small footprint and stable effluent quality, it is suitable for water supply treatment and advanced wastewater treatment where space and efficiency are critical.

The micro-sand ballasted sedimentation tank, also known as a sand-ballasted high-rate sedimentation tank, is based on high-efficiency flocculation and sedimentation. Micro-sand is added during the flocculation process as a carrier for the flocs, increasing the density of the formed flocs and accelerating their settling velocity, thereby greatly improving sedimentation efficiency.

Working principle: after coagulation, the raw water enters the flocculation zone, where micro-sand and flocculant are added. The micro-sand acts as a nucleus for the flocs, causing them to grow rapidly while maintaining high density. Upon entering the sedimentation zone, they settle quickly, and the clarified water is discharged. The sand-laden sludge passes through a hydrocyclone to recover the micro-sand for recycling.

The equipment offers fast settling velocity and high surface loading rate, with a footprint far smaller than conventional sedimentation tanks. It produces good effluent quality and strong shock load resistance. The micro-sand can be recovered and recycled, keeping operating costs low, and it adapts well to water quality fluctuations.

It is widely used in water treatment, advanced sewage treatment, industrial wastewater treatment, and upgrading projects with limited space.
